Amazon Timestream vs Alopex Skulk
How Amazon Timestream for LiveAnalytics and Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB work and where they stand, compared with Alopex Skulk.
Updated: Oct 15, 2026
What Amazon Timestream is
Amazon Timestream is the AWS time-series database service. It comes in two forms: the serverless Amazon Timestream for LiveAnalytics, and Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB, which runs open source InfluxDB as a managed service.
How it works
- LiveAnalytics storage: recent data stays in memory, and older data moves to a cheaper storage tier under user-defined policies.
- LiveAnalytics queries: recent and historical data are queried together in SQL, without caring where they live.
- Timestream for InfluxDB: the open source InfluxDB runs on AWS, with backups and upgrades handled by AWS.
Main features
- Time-series functions for smoothing, approximation and interpolation.
- Serverless capacity that scales automatically.
- Ingestion from AWS IoT Core and Amazon Kinesis.
Limits
Amazon Timestream for LiveAnalytics has closed to new customers, and AWS points to Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB for similar use cases.
How it differs from Alopex Skulk
Both store time series and aggregate them with time functions.
Alopex Skulk is a time-series engine you can embed in device applications. Amazon Timestream receives data inside AWS; Alopex Skulk starts storing inside the app where the data is produced, and the same engine extends to servers and clusters you run yourself.
Store time series right where they are produced. The embedding steps are on Alopex Skulk.
