Enterprise Data Platform
Alopex Enterprise
Protect, connect, decide. One design for the data platform.
Alopex Enterprise is a commercial feature package concept built on the released Alopex DB OSS foundation. It adds data protection, cross-domain search and analysis, SLO-centered operations, and distributed service infrastructure. The architecture is currently under design and technical validation.
A commercial feature package concept adding Security Suite, unified query and enterprise search, Observe, and distributed infrastructure to the Alopex DB OSS foundation.
- Design areas
- 4
- Status

Key points
- Security Suite: a three-layer protection model for storage, data use, and data transfer
- Unified Query Model: SQL, AQL, PromQL, search, and aggregation across one execution model
- Observe & Infrastructure: foundations for SLO decisions and distributed service operations
Challenge
As the data platform fragments, so do protection, search, and operational decisions
Enterprise systems often adopt databases, search, time series, objects, identity, and monitoring separately. That makes it difficult to manage data lifecycles, access boundaries, cross-domain analysis, and SLO-driven operations consistently.
- Encryption, keys, and access controls diverge across storage locations and data types
- Full-text, structured, vector, and time-series queries run on disconnected execution systems
- Observability stops at visualization instead of informing SLO and error-budget decisions or automation
Alopex Enterprise is a commercial feature package built on the Alopex DB OSS foundation. It adds Security Suite, Unified Query Model & Enterprise Search, Observe, and Unified Infrastructure for enterprise workloads. The package is currently in architecture design and technical validation, and is not generally available.
For the released foundation, see Alopex DB and the Alopex DB Docs. To discuss early evaluation or collaborative validation around enterprise requirements, please contact us.
Connect the data lifecycle and operational decisions through one Alopex architecture
Alopex Enterprise layers security, query, observability, and infrastructure capabilities on Alopex DB, the Skulk time-series engine, and Chirps cluster communication. The aim is not merely to replace individual components, but to treat data creation, use, transfer, revocation, and deletion across the platform.
- Design data storage, use, sharing, and revocation around policy and auditability
- Bring search, analytics, and time-series queries toward a common execution model through fit-for-purpose APIs
- Make the SLO state and the next action—not just metric display—the center of operations
- Data protection
- 3 layers
- Query APIs
- SQL+AQL+PromQL

What Alopex Enterprise adds to Alopex DB
Alopex DB is the public OSS foundation. Alopex Enterprise is the commercial package that adds the enterprise capabilities below. All Enterprise capabilities are currently in design or technical validation.
| Alopex DB OSS | Alopex Enterprise package | |
|---|---|---|
| Data protection | Public database and storage foundation | Security Suite for storage, data policy, identity, classification, revocation, and re-encryption |
| Query and search | SQL, vector, and database capabilities provided by the OSS foundation | Unified Query Model and Enterprise Search across SQL, AQL, PromQL, full-text, structured, vector, and aggregation workloads |
| Operations | Open-source components and deployment foundations | Observe for SLOs, error budgets, burn rates, decisions, and action automation |
| Platform infrastructure | Alopex DB, Skulk, Chirps, and related public components | Unified Infrastructure packages for configuration, service discovery, internal DNS, and higher-level platform services |
Architecture
Four Enterprise package areas
These are the feature areas that define the Enterprise package. Availability and specifications may change as implementation progresses.
Security Suite
A security model for data from storage and use through transfer across organizational and domain boundaries
- Storage Shield: encryption and key rotation for database, time-series, embedded, and WASM storage
- Secure Fabric: policy-driven data classification, field-level protection, searchable indexes, revocation, and re-encryption
- Identity Bridge: JWT/OIDC-compatible authentication and role- and domain-based authorization
Unified Query Model & Enterprise Search
A query execution model for search and analysis across data models
- A '3 APIs, 1 Engine' design for SQL, AQL, and PromQL
- An AQL search model combining full-text, structured, vector, and aggregation queries
- Parallel shard execution plus ranking and aggregation designed for search and analysis together
Observe
An observability layer centered on SLO-driven decisions rather than charts alone
- Metrics design starting with Golden Signals, RED, and USE
- State evaluation through SLOs, error budgets, and burn rates
- A decision engine designed to connect notification, scaling, rollback, and other actions
Unified Infrastructure
A distributed foundation that avoids multiplying operational touchpoints as services grow
- alopex-config: a distributed configuration store with etcd/ZooKeeper compatibility in view
- alopex-discovery-dns: service discovery and internal DNS
- A foundation for higher-level services such as Alopex Forge and object storage
Planned Components
The components of the Enterprise package
All areas are in design or technical validation. They are not presented as generally available features.
Secure Data Lifecycle
A concept for treating encryption, data classification, search, key transfer and rotation, revocation, and deletion as one data lifecycle.
Enterprise Search
A search and analytics layer under consideration that combines full-text, structured, and vector search with aggregation through AQL.
SLO-Centric Observe
A design for operational support centered on SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, and burn rates, with OpenTelemetry integration in view.
Platform Services
A direction for extending shared foundations into configuration, discovery, BaaS, and S3-compatible object storage.
Foundation
Built up from released OSS
Alopex Enterprise is designed as a commercial feature package layered on the Alopex data engines and distributed foundation. The public OSS foundation and Enterprise-specific capabilities remain separate.
Data Engines
Alopex DB, Skulk, and data layers for search, vector processing, and analytics
Security & Control
A control plane for data policy, keys, identity, and audit
Runtime & Operations
An execution and operations layer connecting distributed services and decisions

Status
The Enterprise package is currently in design and validation
Alopex Enterprise is a commercial feature package, not a support tier for Alopex DB. It is not generally available yet. Work is progressing from the released Alopex DB foundation by defining and validating security boundaries, data flows, query behavior, and SRE operations.
