libp2p vs Alopex Chirps
libp2p, the modular peer-to-peer networking stack, compared with Alopex Chirps.
Updated: Oct 13, 2026
What libp2p is
libp2p is a modular system of protocols, specifications and libraries for building global-scale peer-to-peer applications. Implementations in Go, Rust, JavaScript, Nim and more follow the same specifications.
How it works
- Transports: choose from TCP, QUIC, WebSocket, WebRTC and WebTransport.
- Encryption: every connection is encrypted by default with Noise or TLS 1.3.
- NAT traversal: hole punching, AutoNAT and relays connect peers behind NATs.
Main features
- Multiplexing several protocols over one connection.
- Runs in browsers, on mobile devices and on servers.
Limits
It is designed to be assembled from parts, and the application decides which parts to use. It does not include consensus.
How it differs from Alopex Chirps
Both open encrypted connections over QUIC and carry messages between peers.
libp2p offers a wide range of transports and NAT traversal for networks where arbitrary peers connect. Alopex Chirps is built for clusters of nodes that know each other through certificates. Nodes always authenticate each other with mutual TLS, join from a seed list, track members through gossip and agree through Raft.
Try Alopex Chirps to build a certificate-protected cluster, from joining to consensus, with one library. Start from the quickstart on GitHub.
